OMBC celebrates 25 years
As Ohio’s only official mountain bike championship race series since 2000, Ohio Mountain Bike Championship (OMBC) has delivered some of the best MTB competition to thousands of racers.
The eight-race series begins in March with the popular MO Gritty gravel race. It begins and ends at Mohican Adventures in Loudonville, Ohio. This race has seen its share of weather events from sunny days to snowy days.
OMBC uses courses from north central to southeastern Ohio, but is always looking to expand its reach in the state. Bailey’s Trail System, a popular destination in Athens county for riders, hosts the Chauncey Challenge in June. The machine-built course gives riders a lot of fun flow.
By far the most popular OMBC race is the Mohican MTB 100. It’s held in May and criss-crosses three counties of which a lot of the course runs through Mohican Memorial Forest and Mohican State Park. Several pro-racers have competed in this race and it’s also part of the NUE Series.
OMBC encourages riders of all levels to compete. In fact, two of the OMBC races feature kids races. Past NUE and OMBC Series Champions Josh Kunz and Chase Caughey began their racing careers at OMBC kids races.
Our club supports OMBC all season, but more so for the races local to Mohican - from packet pick-up and aid station support to sweeps for each race. We encourage you to race one or all of the OMBC series. If you’re not quite ready to compete, consider volunteering at a race to be close to the action and learn more about OMBC.
